Shared Governance

Faculty Committee

AAUP works to ensure meaningful participation by faculty in institutional governance.

We hold that the faculty have primary responsibility for curriculum, subject matter and methods of instruction, research, faculty status, and aspects of student life which relate to the educational process.  Faculty status includes appointments, reappointments, decisions not to reappoint, promotions, the granting of tenure, and dismissal.

Faculty should participate in the preparation of the institutional budget and in decisions regarding allocations of the budget among its various divisions.

A key AAUP document describing recognized shared governance principles is the 1966 Statement on Government of Colleges and Universities (link)

If you are interested in working on shared governance issues then contact Brian Pauwels (Doane Directory Listing) and let him know you want to be a part of the Doane AAUP Shared Governance Committee.
